William Bock
William Bock is an interdisciplinary artist working in the UK and Ireland. Bock’s practise delves into the experiences of living between cultures, landscapes and identities. He uses photography, painting, sound recording, performance and installation to explore the connections between people, land, community, migration, ecology and identity.
Bock’s current work LAND WALKS engages with stories of belonging, uprooting and living on a damaged planet. It is a practise of walking, of noticing, of foraging and recording sound with asylum seekers who are striving to understand the culture and landscape of rural Ireland.
The entangled stories of human and plant migrations across the globe feed the conversation during these walks. Together they create ‘sound walks’ for others to listen to while walking.
Bock is driven by a collaborative, responsive approach to working with materials, particular sites and with communities. His practise encompasses the production and curation of public events, workshops, exhibitions and residencies. Bock is a founding member of award winning artist group DIG COLLECTIVE who in 2018 were commissioned by Art Safiental, a Biennale for Land and Environment Art in Tenna, Switzerland.
Bock was co director of STRANGEWORKS who produced public performance events in London and abroad. He has a BA in Performance Design and Practise at Central St Martins and MA Fine Art at the London City and Guilds School of Art.
He is currently working on LAND WALKS LAND TALKS LAND MARKS a solo exhibition and collaborative project at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre in 2020 funded by Arts Council Ireland.
