WaveScape is an auditory response to Greenwood's visual stimulus, ‘Moibus Wave’ etching in room 2 of the Wilderness for the mind exhibition. The work was created by Gooderson using modular synthesis, graphic scores from the etching and field recordings. ‘Wavescape‘ Maxi single release on ‘Play in the System’ Label 2020- please click on link box below to listen to the Free dowload which is available on BandCamp.
Matt Gooderson explains more about the process of creating WaveScape.“In many respects, the work operated as sonic adventurism. The Covid-19 lockdown meant that all of the compositions were written very early in the morning, before my family awoke. I would get up at 4 o'clock and walk into Ashdown Forest to capture the dawn chorus. The rising, dusty sunlight hitting the tree line sending shivers down my spine. The sounds and light representing hope. I used technology to score the birdsong and then improvised, alongside granular synthesis, morphogenic piano and graphic scores, to create a vessel of hope through isolation.”
Catherine Greenwood comments “I played an initial recording of Wavescape in the woods and invited my daughter Tilliana Greenwood to interpret the music in dance with the silk banner hanging amongst the trees. I created the video “Waves of Tranquility, referring to the seas of the moon, our longing for the ocean and experiencing the gravitational pull of emotion at this time of lockdown. Wavescape has undergone many transformations, as a series of etchings, monoprints and videos, musical tracks and sonic soundscapes.”
