Trish Lock
From an urban environment to the Mendip Hills, it’s been a meandering, and at times colourful journey to the West. Trish grew up in Hackney, East London, four houses away from a busy railway line. London Fields was her adopted back garden and a place where the young people of the area met up. Her love of drawing and photography grew from those beginnings and laid the foundations for her teaching practice when she finally settled in Bristol.
She studied B A Fine Art and Creative Studies in English, at Bath Spa University College. Then a PGCE and finally joined Jamaica Street Studios.
After bringing up her family and teaching for a number of years, Trish made the decision to concentrate on her own practice. She loves spending time drawing in woodlands, or walking through the moors and along coastal paths. Wistmans Wood is one of her favourite places to photograph. The rare and surreal environment adds mystery to the many legends of ancient forests.
The Pigmy Oaks with their knarly limbs are featured in her recent body of work. The portraits endeavour to explore trees in different contexts: Their relationship within their communities, the eco systems they support, their cultural importance, and the well being they provide to humans.
